Asian Studies Program
The Asian Studies Program was established in 1969 to cultivate, promote, and coordinate the study of all aspects of Asia. It administers the undergraduate minor and the graduate certificate in Asian studies, which give students the option of taking Asia-related courses drawn from a wide variety of disciplines, including Anthropology, Art, Comparative Literature, Economics, History, Political Science, and Religion. In addition the program encourages research, develops curricula, and sponsors lectures and other cultural activities intended to enhance the understanding of Asia.
In cooperation with the Department of East Asian Languages and Cultures, the Asian Studies Program has established several highly successful lecture series on East Asian civilizations. The lectures, presented by prominent scholars in their fields, have appeared as Rutgers' Occasional Publications in East Asian Studies. In addition, the program sponsors a regular faculty seminar on East Asian humanities.
