Our Major/Minor Programs: The department offers major programs (12 courses/36 credits) and minor programs (6 courses/18 credits) in Asian Studies, Chinese, Japanese, and Korean. Majors earn their B.A. in Asian Studies, B.A. in Chinese, B.A. in Japanese, or B.A. in Korean when they graduate.
Our Mission: We have created an exceptional learning environment for the study of Chinese, Japanese, and Korean languages and cultures, and we now offer and we now offer Filipino and Vietnamese language study through the Big Ten Academic Alliance (BTAA). Our faculty members conduct cutting-edge research that is transforming the fields of Chinese, Japanese, and Korean Studies. Come join our classes and lecture programs and see for yourself!
Note: All Fall 2020 courses in the department will be taught online
- SR (synchronous remote) courses meet online during the class time specified in the Schedule of Classes.
- AR (asynchronous remote) classes do not meet during a specific class time; students work at their own pace following a schedule established by the course instructor.
- Students will be given time to learn how to use Sakai, Canvas, WebEx, Zoom, and other online learning tools for success in their classes.
- Fall semester faculty office hours will be held online by arrangement only.

Continuing Students may use WebReg now to make schedule adjustments.
SAS Students may withdraw from individual classes with a W through November 30, as long as they retain 12 credits of active registration.
SAS Students may withdraw from all classes by taking a Leave of Absence through November 30.
